Jeans are the most versatile piece of clothing in our wardrobes, which is why it’s not a surprise that we have so many questions about our favourite closet staple. We asked two denim experts, Jason Trotzuk, founder and creative designer of Fidelity Jeans and Alex Gray, the senior design director for Gap Denim, our most-asked questions about jeans. Here are their answers:

How many pairs of jeans should you have?

Jason:  Realistically, most people wear three or four pairs consistently.

Alex: Four or five.

Best way to dress-up jeans?

Jason: Beautiful shoes!

Alex: High, strappy sandals.

Is denim on denim ever cool?

Jason: Look at Steve McQueen, Jimmy Dean, Elvis Presley….the Canadian tuxedo is eternally cool.

Alex: Always.

To belt or not to belt?

Jason: I’d have to say no belt – jeans should be a seamless fit in the waistband, with or without a belt.

Alex: Depends on the outfit.

Should you in your shirt, or let it hang?

Jason: I say let it hang, but tucking in the front of the shirt is a popular trend – slightly unkempt but cool.

Alex: Half-tuck.

What are the most popular washes for fall?

Jason: Selvedge denim is going to be huge!

Alex: Lived-in washes in textured denim.
