Which foods are off-limits during pregnancy?
Can you tuck into that tuna salad sandwich you’re craving? What about that wine and cheese party-can you nibble on a little Brie? If you’re confused about what you can and cannot nosh on during your pregnancy, you’re not alone. “The whole reason women are counselled to avoid specific foods is because of the risk to the fetus,” says Nishta Saxena, a clinical dietitian and lecturer with the University of Toronto’s Family and Community Medicine department. “So it may be there are foods that increase the risk of miscarriage or low birth weight, for example.
